Former AICC secretary and MlA Jai Kishan on Friday announced that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is likely to attend a programme on the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar on Sunday. The programme will start from 10 Janpath.
large number of dalit leaders from Haryana, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan will attend the programme. Criticising the Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel for hosting a lunch for dalits on Ambedkar Jayanti, he stated that the saffron party is doing drama ahead of Assembly polls this year.
“During the NDA regime, dalit community has been badly harassed for getting their caste certificate and their promotion in the Government services as there was a ban on the reservation,” he said.
Parliamentary Secretary to CM, spokesperson of Congress legislative Party and fourth-time MlA Mukesh Sharma has also criticised BJP for hosting a lunch for dalits on Ambedkar Jayanti.
He added that BJP has been trying to gain political mileage as it is feeling unsafe on election turf.
Further, safai karmcharis are being pressurised through three corporations to join in lunch in large number. “This amounts to coercion for which BJP would be termed responsible. It also amounts to infringement freedom to join or not join any program,” he said.
