With police inaction adding insult to their injury, the North-Eastern fraternity in the Capital has decided to protest indefinitely seeking justice for deceased Nido Tania.

However, they got a fillip on Monday when Congress vice-president joined the protesters at Jantar Mantar on Monday evening and assured appropriate action in the matter. They will continue the dharna at Jantar Mantar until action is taken against the errant policemen and culprits who allegedly thrashed Tania to death.

Continuing their protest for the third consecutive day, the North-Eastern clan of the country said that they have lost confidence in the Delhi Police. A delegation of students from the North-Eastern States also met the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal and Rahul Gandhi.

Gandhi expressed deep anguish over the death of Tania and agreed with the delegation that a free and fair investigation must be carried out into the incident that led to his death. He expressed grave concern over the disturbing trend of growing violence against youths from North-East India in our cities.

Asserting that ‘what has happened was unacceptable’, Rahul said, “You can expect a very strict action and detailed study done by a committee on the issues of N-E people of this country. We are trying to move forward on that.”

Kejriwal has also written to the Chief Ministers of the North-Eastern States assuring fair and impartial probe by magistrate with regard to the case. The protesters demanded that the case be transferred to the CBI or a Special Investigation Team which should include representatives from the North-East. Protesters demanded the culprits to be arrested within 36 hours. Meanwhile, protests were staged across the Capital by various students wing. National Students Union of India (NSUI) carried out a protest today at the Arts Faculty, Delhi University against the unsatisfactory action of Delhi Police and for demanding justice for Nido Tania.
