Delhi Congress president Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday welcomed the statement of party president Rahul Gandhi’s pledge to ensure minimum income for the poor and termed the announcement a “revolutionary” step that will transform the lives of the poor.
Dikshit said that the principle of ‘Universal Basic Income’ (UBI) is the perfect method to apply in our country. “The Congress party will explain the detailed plans of the minimum income guarantee to the poor in the Congress manifesto for the coming Lok Sabha elections.”
She said that 140 million people were lifted out of poverty between 2004 and 2014 when the Congress was at the Centre. “We should make a determined effort to wipe out poverty in India”, she added.
