Harried commuters will soon get reprieve from the bottlenecks on Rao Tula Ram (RTR) flyover as the PWD has prepared a final decongestion plan for the much criticised flyover to receive Delhi Government’s nod.
After receiving approvals to construct a parallel flyover to the existing RTR flyover from the two prominent agencies, UTTIPEC and Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC), the Department will now seek Government’s clearance.
“The Government’s green signal on the proposal is crucial and will seal the construction of the new flyover. Once the nod is received, the tender process will start before the Delhi Assembly elections notification is issued. Construction work will be started within six months from the time the estimates are approved by the State Government,” said a source with PWD.
The estimated time required for the construction of the flyover is two years. The new flyover will facilitate traffic discharge from IIT to IGI Airport, benefitting air travellers who witness perpetual traffic woes on RTR flyover. The proposed flyover will run parallel to the existing flyover at RTR Marg and land near Niryat Bhawan. The length of the flyover will be 2.2 km. The expected cost of construction for the parallel flyover will be Rs 125 crore. An underpass too will be constructed at the intersection of Benito Juarez Marg with Ring Road.
