The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that some private hospitals and shopping malls in South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) areas are taking illegal parking charges from the people.
The AAP said this “illegal extortion” in name of parking charges is against the “order of Delhi High Court in which it stated that these private hospitals and malls cannot take parking charges as they are on the land given by government on the condition that they will not levy any parking charges,” said the AAP.
Senior AAP leader and party spokesperson Dilip Pandey alleged that this “illegal extortion” is going on under the patronage of BJP leaders in the corporation. “All these shopping malls and private hospitals are of rich businessmen who are extorting money from the pocket of common people in name of parking charges. All this is going on under the patronage of BJP leaders in the corporation,” said Pandey.
Further alleging that part of this “illegal money” goes into the pocket of BJP leaders, Pandey said that after High Court orders on the PIl filed by an AAP worker this illegal parking charge is stopped at many places but still there are some private hospitals and shopping malls which are taking this illegal fee in name of parking.
The AAP claimed that this illegal business in name of parking charges is also going on in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation and East Delhi Municipal Corporation areas.
“The AAP will knock at the door of Commissioners of these two corporations demanding free parking and if needed will also take legal recourse,” said Pandey.
