Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIP) is likely to wind up its counselling sessions for all undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD courses on July 31. The university officials confirmed on Thursday that this year, the university has received approximately 2,45,000 application forms against its 29,000 seats.
“Our university has organised centralised counselling sessions. Aspirants, who have qualified the Common Entrance Test-2015 (CET-2015), can now approach the university for counselling,” said a higher official. Every year, thousands of aspirants come to the national Capital to be the part of prestigious education institutions. But due to high cut-off, many of them are unable to take admissions and follow the route of private universities.
Despite UGC’s recent notification on 21 fake universities, many learning institutes are still selling degrees on the name of regular degrees.“It is a peak season for the admissions. Daily, we receive calls from private institutes to attend the counselling sessions,” said a student. “They try to trap us by giving us offers. For instance, if we pay the full fee to these private institutions, they provide us with either a laptop or tab,” the student added.
Many learning centres in Delhi region are affiliated with universities in other States. Despite having the affiliations from other State universities, many learning centres have claimed that they provide regular degrees to the students. “The officials of these learning centres invited aspirants to attend the counselling session offered some discount on fees,” said another student. The cost of normal BBA degree is at least `3 lakh, he added.
According to JS Rajpoot, Former Director, NCERT, the State university should take the responsibility to ensure quality education in these institutions.
“Students, who are fresh twelfth pass, are innocent, the three years of graduation in career matters,” said Rajpoot. “The State university should ensure that the quality of education is given in these institutions.” He further added.
“No private institutions or colleges of IP University are authorised to invite the students for counselling session. The university officials also cleared that institutions and colleges affiliated with it are not authorised to run the separate courses from other universities,” said IP University official.  GGSIP University is popularly known as IP University among youngsters. The State university, which is under the Delhi Government, provides degrees in professional courses including BBA, BCA, MBA, MCA and BJMC, MJMC.
