In a bid to ease congestion at major traffic junctions, the Noida Authority is planning to decongest the city roads over the next two to three years.
Around 25 kilometers stretch in Noida would be made signal free. The Noida Authority plans seven underpasses and three elevated flyovers along five major roads in the city.
The roads that would be made signal free include Master Plan-II road from GIP Mall to Shoprix Mall, Road-8 of Sector-71 and Sector-62, Dadari-Surajpur to Chalera (DSC) road, Barola Sector-49 and Noida Stadium Sector-12/22 road to Master Plan-I road of Rajnigandha to Sector-12/22.
Approximately 20 lakh commuters plying daily from Noida, Greater Noida and Delhi towards Ghaziabad (Indirapuram), NH-24 would get an easy access to reach their last destination.
To make the 4 km long stretch from Sector-71 to Sector-62 signal free, the Noida Authority has proposed four underpasses that cover intersections of Sector-62(Model Town), Mamura Chowk, Sector-61 and Sector-71. A senior Noida Authority official said the construction work on Sector-62 (Model Town) underpass is already in full swing and 35 per cent construction work has been completed. While work on another underpass of Sector-61 intersection is all set to start from August 1.
Meanwhile, work on Mamura Chowk underpass that connects sectors 64, 62, 66 and 60 is in high gear. “We had started the construction of Model Town underpass six months back and the work is going on in full swing. Now, the site mobilisation and traffic diversion work has been started for Sector-61 underpass to start its digging from August 1,” said Rajesh Prakash Singh, Additional Chief Executive officer (ACEO), Noida Authority.
“The detailed estimate of Mamura Chock underpass has been sent to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), New Delhi for its approval. Then tender would be floated on this project and the work is expected to start in three months,” he said.
However, the design of Sector-71 intersection, where a metro junction is proposed for Greater Noida and Sector-62 metro link, has been changed. Official said the direction of the underpass at Sector-71 would be from Hoshiyarpur to Sector-72.
Also, the Authority has scrapped its proposed 1 km elevated flyover between Sector-51 to Sector-72, and has instead proposed a roundabout in its place. The decision has been taken due to the alignment of Sector-62 metro extension link.
“We have decided to put off proposed elevated flyover between Sector-52 to Sector-72. The metro will ply at 12 meter as Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is not ready to ply metro on 18 meter,” ACEO Rajesh Prakash said.
The commuters plying from Greater Noida and Film City for Ghaziabad would also get an easy access by plying over an elevated flyover as the construction work on 5.5 km elevated flyover between passes of Great India Palace underpass to Shoprix Mall that connects to Sector-61 underpass on Master Plan-II Marg is already on high gear.
Another 4 km stretch between Barola, sector-49 to sector-12/22 would be signal free soon. An Authority official said they had opened one underpass at City Center in June this year and the construction work on another underpass of NTPC intersection, which will make the drive up to Sector 12/22 completely signal free, is to be started from August 1.
“Two underpasses have also been proposed on Adobe crossing and Sector-12/22 intersection,” Noida authority official said.
Also, it would be easier for the commuters plying on Dadari-Surajpur-Chalera (DSC) road as Noida Authority is going to start the construction work of an elevated flyover of 5.5 km stretch here from August. An elevated flyover has also been proposed between Sector-10/21 to 12/22/56 intersection on master plan-I Road. Authority official said they have floated its tender. Two companies have showed their interest.
