Public hearing on power tariff

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) is going to hold a public hearing to regulate the power tariff for domestic consumers on Friday. The Commission has invited all those interested to participate in the two-day public hearing. It will be organised for the commercial and Government agencies on Saturday, while a revision in power tariff is expected to roll out by July-end.

The DERC has already received petitions from three power distribution companies which demanded substantial hike in tariff. “Comments, suggestions and objections from the stake-holders have already been collected for analysis. Public hearing will be held on June 20 and June 21,” said a DERC official.

However, this time, apart from discussing people’s mandate on power tariffs, the DERC will also take public opinion on the Draft DERC Regulations, 2014. “Draft DERC (Demand Side Management Implementation Framework) Regulations 2012, Proposed Regulation on Net Metering and Connectivity in respect to rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) project and Draft DERC Regulations, 2014 will also be discussed in the public hearing this time,” said a DERC official. Meanwhile, power demand in the Capital continued to surge — with the peak load during the last 24 hours touching 5,439 MW. Outages continued in the Capital with East and West Delhi being the most-affected areas.
