Just after the Friday prayers at North east Delhi’s Seelampur area, scores of protesters gathered to mark their protest against the Citizen Amendment Act (CAA) in the area. On Friday morning, police have imposed prohibitory orders in Seelampur, restricting the assembly of more than four people. Earlier in the day, police and paramilitary personnel carried out a flag march in Seelampur and Sunder Nagri.
According to police, prohibitory orders were imposed in 12 police station areas of Northeast Delhi and police used drones to keep a tab on the law and order situation in the district.
“There was a peaceful protest during the day. Police detained people who might disrupt the peaceful protest,” said a senior police official.
In the wake of protest, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation closed Jaffrabad and Maujpur-Babarpur in Seelampur.
On Tuesday, violence had broken out in the area over the amended Citizenship Act. Thousands of protesters clashed with police and damaged vehicles and also tried to torch a police post on Tuesday.
