Protest against razing of temple hall hits traffic

Hundreds of residents of laxmi Nagar came out on road on Friday evening to hold a candlelight march protesting the demolition of a community hall of the laxmi Narayan Mandir in East Delhi's Shakarpur.

The outpouring of people to join the candle-light march blocked both the carriageways on Vikas Marg at laxmi Nagar Metro Station.

The obstruction due to the protesters started around 7 pm in the evening when hundreds of residents blocked traffic on Vikas Marg. Commuters were stuck in traffic for over an hour.

Delhi Development Authority (DDA) had on Thursday demolished the community hall in Priyadarshini Vihar near the laxmi Nagar Mangal Market on the Delhi High Court’s order. Parts of the 40-year-old temple were also demolished.
