Property dealer shot in Faridabad court

A property dealer was shot dead by seven armed assailants, who opened fire on the premises of a court in Faridabad.

The attackers fired several rounds in the district court complex, killing Ballabgarh resident Shashi Nagar, who had come to court to meet his lawyer in connection with a case, police said. Shashi received 11 bullet injuries and died on the spot, police said. After gunning him down, the attackers fled from the court premises.

The empty cartridges recovered have been sent to Madhuban lab for forensics. Senior police officials said it appears the assailants had conducted a recce of the place. They seemed to know the court’s back gates were unmanned from where they had entered. Police is also studying CCTV footage to identify the accused cars’ number plates. Shashi Nagar, it seems, had a shady past and was mired in 13 criminal cases. He was booked under the arms act, involved in cases of kidnapping and trespassing, and for subverting the law since 2007. “Prima facie, it appears to be a case of personal animosity over a property dispute,” said AS Chawla, Police Commissioner, Faridabad. Faridabad’s MP Avtar Singh Bhadana came down heavily on the deteriorating law and order situation in the industrial city.

“I am going to take up the issue with the Chief Minister and the state police chief,” said Bhadana. After the incident, hundreds of lawyers and locals raised slogans against Faridabad police. Roads were blocked for nearly two hours.
