Traffic at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg came to a standstill on Monday afternoon owing to traffic diversions due to President Pranab Mukherjee’s route from Rashtrapati Bhavan to DDU Marg. Cars were bumper-to-bumper at Pragati Maidan and ITO.
Commuters travelling from Rajpath too went through a harrowing experience from Rashtrapati Bhavan to New Delhi Railway Station due to route diversions. The traffic was halted for a while to ensure smooth passage for President’s convoy.President’s route to DDU Marg led to major traffic snarls at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi Railway Station, Vijay Chowk, Krishna Menon Road, Goal Matthew Road, Akbar Road, Motilal Nehru Place, Janpath, Maulana Azad Road, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Deen Dayal Marg and DDU Marg.
Moreover, the ongoing Metro construction at ITO has worsened the traffic conditions and added to the woes of the locals. Almost everyday, major roadblocks are witnessed at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Mandi House and Pragati Maidan.“The Metro construction is continues for longer hours and the traffic moves on both sides. Moreover, there are no underpasses and flyovers to ensure a smoother sail of traffic,” said Anil Shukla ACP (Traffic).
“Few proposals have been sent and hopefully the decision will be taken accordingly soon,” he added.
