A man who had allegedly murdered an 80-year-old woman and looted her house with his associate in Prashant Vihar area has been arrested by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police.
The accused, identified as Rajesh, alias Suraj (22), who carried a cash reward of `50,000 was arrested on Wednesday from Kirari area following a tip-off. Soon after committing the crime, the accused had taken away the entire CCTV system of the house to eliminate evidence against him. The incident had taken place on January 29 in Prashant Vihar area. One Sandhya Sinha had reported to police that she had her husband had left home in the morning leaving her mother Krishna behind.
“After dropping her at school, her husband left to deposit money in some banks. After some time, when she repeatedly called her husband, the phone was picked by one Raman, who was known to the family since last 5-6 months. He had provided his services as a driver to the family and even accompanied the family out of Delhi,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.
Raman kept on telling that her husband Shailesh was busy with his friends. She then asked Raman to come to her school to pick her up but he did not turn up. On returning home at about 1.30 pm, she found her mother lying dead on the floor in a pool of blood and her household articles were scattered and locks of almirah were broken, he said.
Cash of `5 lakh, two rings and the entire CCTV system were missing from the house. later on, in the evening her husband Shailesh Sinha was found semi-comatose with his car at an isolated stretch behind M2K market, Rohini who further confirmed the role of Raman and his associate Rajesh in commission of the crime after intoxicating him, police said.
During interrogation, Rajesh confessed to have committed the brutal murder of the old woman with his associate Radha Raman. On the fateful day, they first administered drugs in liquor to Shailesh in the car itself and then abducted him.
They took the keys to the house from Shailesh, went to his house, police said. “They got into the house and thrashed the woman before killing her by strangulation. They broke open the locks of almirah/lockers and took out cash `5 lakh and two gold rings. They also yanked off the entire CCTV system installed in the flat as their activities were captured in the CCTV,” said Yadav. Then they fled in Shailesh Sinha’s car and later left him tied in semi-conscious state at an isolated place behind M2K market, Rohini.
