As the monsoon arrived earlier than the scheduled time, power demand in the National Capital dropped by nearly 2,000 MW in just 10 days.
However, the dip in power demand failed to make the power situation in the city better. Outages continued across Delhi with South Delhi being the worst-hit area on Monday. Besides, the Delhi Transco limited (DTl) introduced the city’s first Emergency Restoration System (ERS) to ensure quick restoration in case a high-voltage line is damaged.
While so far the maximum power demand this season touched 5,653 MW on June 6, which has now decreased to 3,660 MW. In South Delhi, areas like Alaknanda, Nehru Place, Kalkaji, Okhla and East of Kailash witnessed major power cuts.
