After witnessing the highest temperature of this season, Delhi's power demand on Friday also reached this year's peak at 5,214 MW. This, however, came with the perennial problem of power cuts. Several parts of the city faced outages on Thursday night and Friday. The worst-affected were the West Delhi areas — including Janakpuri and Uttam Nagar where people complained of long power cuts during the night.
According to Delhi Transco, while last year, the maximum power demand had gone beyond 5,600 MW, this summer it is expected to reach a record breaking 6000 MW mark.
"The maximum power demand was recorded at 5214 MW in the city on Friday, breaching Thursday's record demand of 5,055 MW," a power department official said.
