Four unidentified persons, posing as BSES employees, entered the home of a gold broker in East Delhi’s Surajmal Vihar and robbed gold jewellery and cash worth around several lakhs of rupees after taking the family hostage.
Police said that the incident took place on Thursday around 2.30 pm when gold trader Pankaj Aggarwal left his wife Bhawana Aggarwal and their three children at home. “The complainant, Bhawana Aggarwal, told the police that the accused had a friendly entry into the house. At 2.30 pm, they knocked on the door posing as BSES officials and showed her identity cards asking her to be allowed entry,” the officer added.
After entering into the house, the accused closed the door from inside and took out their pistols. “They asked the woman to hand over all the cash and jewellery but when she resisted, they allegedly physically assaulted the woman and also tied up her 14-year-old son, Naman Aggarwal while carrying out their act. They threatened the victims of dire consequences if an alarm was raised,” an officer said.
Police said that the accused robbed the family of Rs 3 lakh in cash, an undisclosed amount of jewellery and one I-Phone 5. Preliminary investigation revealed that the assailants were wearing gloves and took care to not leave fingerprints behind. “They brandished a toy pistol and were familiar with the whereabouts and the schedule of Pankaj Aggarwal. A case of robbery along with other appropriate sections was registered at Anand Vihar police station of East Delhi,” the officer added.
