Politics my final surrender to the plebeians: Kiran

Politics is my final surrender to the people,” said BJP’s chief ministerial nominee Kiran Bedi on the final day of campaigning for the crucial February 7 Assembly polls. In her final lap on Thursday, Bedi led high-decibel campaigns in Krishna Nagar, Mangolpuri, Sultanpuri, Kirari, Nangloi and Mundka with leaders like Union Minister Harsh Vardhan and MP Maheish Girri.

Krishna Nagar was bathed in saffron colour as supporters of the former IPS officer took her last roadshow in the constituency. Young supporters mainly from Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) rallied for her on bikes while hundred others in BJP scarf, caps and Modi masks cheered slogans like Chappa Chappa… Bhajapa and Ek Do Teen Chaar, Modi Ki Jai Jaikaar.

Many waited for her for nearly three hours while Bedi campaigned in North and West Delhi. As the brass band played tunes which enthused her followers, youngsters gave them a tough competition by using musical instruments made of scrap metal. Almost everyone in Krishna Nagar followed her campaign trail even as many clicked photos of their leader from their balconies. Putting an arm around Vardhan’s shoulder and waving with the other, Bedi devoted the last three hours to her home constituency.

From Geeta Colony and Mandir Marg to lal Kuan, Bedi did not spare a single street of her home constituency to make the final connect with the residents. Before she reached the area, her niece Chandi Bedi along with senior party leader Sanjay Kaul rallied for her.

As the countdown began for Delhi polls, Bedi could not stop lashing out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its convener Arvind Kejriwal as she compared her administrative experience to that of Arvind Kejriwal’s as an IRS officer. “I have 40 years of administrative experience and that other man (Kejriwal), who is spreading lies, has just five years experience. He is a bhagoda and will run away again,” Bedi said, while campaigning in Kirari constituency of North-West Delhi here.

Addressing a gathering in Kirari, she asked voters to not to pay heed to negative rumours. “I have two issues, which will benefit all. I have not come here to harm anyone, whether it is a vendor, businessman or a sweeper. All the rumours that are filtering in are false,” she said, while also speaking about women’s safety and security.
