It is a rare sight when political opponents come together and share dais with each other. Tuesday was the day when leaders of major political parties — Congress and BJP along with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal were present on the same stage.
The occasion was celebration of Eid Milad-un-Nabi in Bara Hindu Rao of Old Delhi to commemorate birthday of the Prophet Muhammad. The locality falls under Ballimaran Assembly seat dominated by the minority population. The seat along with three other Assembly constituencies having sizeable Muslim population were retained by Congress MlA despite heavy anti-Congress wave and favourable atmosphere for AAP in the recently concluded Assembly election. The Congress has won eight seats in the election and this Ballimaran seat was captured by Congress MlA Haroon Yusuf fifth time in a row.
Apart from Kejriwal, Union Minister Kapil Sibal, former Delhi BJP Chief Vijender Gupta and Congress legislative Party leader Haroon Yusuf attended the function, which was organised by Markazi-Anjuman Id-e-Milad-un-Nabi. The attendance of leaders of these parties assumed significance as the lok Sabha elections are scheduled in April-May. Sibal is local MP as it is part of the Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency.
While addressing the gathering on the occasion, Delhi CM said that the country is facing plethora of problems and the common man is also fed-up with corruption, inflation and price rise, hence, it is the need of the hour to follow the path of the Prophet. “As country is under severe crisis, the commemoration of Prophet is an ideal occasion for spreading the messages which could help in constructing a good society,” said Kejriwal.
Sibal said he is delighted it spreads the message of unity. “I am deeply attached with the occasion which focusses over strength of the people. As the country is highly diversified, we should believe in unity and the objective will be fulfilled only when everybody will adopt the lectures of Hazrat Sahib,” he said.
