A 32-year-old Polish woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a cruise employee in South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on the pretext of marriage. Police said a case in connection to it was registered at the Vasant Kunj (South) police station but no arrests have been made in the case yet.
In her complaint, which the woman made through her advocate, she alleged that she met the accused, Gaurav Rana, on a Carnival ship in 2014, where she was working as an assistant waitress. The accused was working as gallery steward on the ship.
The victim was first approached by the accused for friendship and then proposed her after a few days and started persistent efforts to persuade her to marry him in India.
The complainant fell into the trap of the accused thinking that he genuinely loved her and both of them started talking on Whatsapp, Viber and other social media websites.
In 2015, the victim visited India along with her two friends and spent a few weeks with the accused. During her trip to India, the accused took her to Shimla and Mussoorie and developed physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage.
The victim went back to Poland and returned to India in 2016. During her second trip, she stayed at a rented accommodation in South Delhi’s Mahipalpur. The victim alleged that this time too the accused had physical relations with her but kept delaying the marriage on one pretext and other.
“The accused also introduced his girlfriend Yogita to the victim as her cousin. The victim’s visa was expiring, so she had to go back to Poland. She then realised that the accused was cheating on her and also having physical relationship with his girlfriend at the same time and was also sexually exploiting her. She then approached the police. The accused had also cheated the vicitim of huge sums of money. She was also counseled by a team of Delhi Commission for Women. later she was taken to Safdarjung Hospital where rape was established in her medical report. After getting her medical report we have lodged a rape case against the accused,” a senior police official said.
The official further said that the accused was not found at her residence and it was found that he was in France. The police said that they would arrest the accused once he is returned to India. Further investigation in the matter was on.
