Police to ensure city has terror-free Diwali

The Delhi Police is on its toes to thwart any terrorist attack in the crowded markets of the Capital during Diwali festivities. Round-the-clock electronic surveillance has been mounted at all busy markets and commercial hubs in Delhi, especially Karol Bagh, Sarojini Nagar, Paharganj, Sadar Bazar and Jwala Heri.

Tightening security during the festive season to avoid any untoward incident, Delhi Police has made all appropriate arrangements. Sadar Bazar Market has been accorded special attention with the deployment of one company of police force, including women officers. Barricading and door-framed metal detectors have been erected on both sides of the busy 12 Tuti Market at Sadar Bazar. The entire market is under surveillance of CCTV cameras, which is constantly being monitored by officers at the control room.

“We are very careful this time. To prevent any mishap from occurring at the cracker shops throughout the city, we have deployed a security guard outside each cracker shop. This way we can keep a check on any inflammable article or any smokers around the shops,” said a police official

Fire extinguishers, sand bags and water tankers were seen outside all the cracker shops as regulation. The dealers at the Sadar Bazar get a 12-day licence before Diwali, issued by the district Deputy Commissioner of Police, North district. The same drill is being conducted in other districts too where all security measures are in place to maintain safety of shoppers, a police official said. Same arrangements will remain in effect till celebrations are over, he clarified.
