Amid communal tension in some parts of the Dehradun district, the senior superintendent of police of Dehradun Daleep Singh Kunwar said that the police will act under the National Security Act (NSA) against those who are deliberately trying to disrupt harmony, law and order. The police have also deployed additional police force in sensitive areas across the district. Kunwar said that the police have received some complaints from the Vikasnagar area in the past few days regarding the alleged molestation of young women by men of a minority community and other issues related to disturbing of communal harmony and law and order. The police have also claimed to have arrested three people in two similar cases. Two 19-year-old males belonging to a minority community also reportedly escaped with a minor girl living in Vasant Vihar. After the girl’s family filed a complaint, the police reportedly arrested both accused within three hours. Besides this, the police have also received some complaints from both communities regarding alleged harassment, as per the officials. To ensure the condition does not get worse in the district, the SSP has directed all the police station in-charges to act against such complaints immediately. He said that the police are acting on every complaint as per the law and one must refrain from spreading any hate speech or disinformation in such matters. Kunwar also visited Vikasnagar late on Thursday night to take stock of the law and order in the area. He also warned people that no person or community will be allowed to disturb communal harmony in the area and severest action will be taken against offenders who disturb the law and order. He said that the police are monitoring the whole area with the help of drones to get complete and updated information about the area. Kunwar said that the police have identified some miscreants who created communal tension and the process is on to identify the rest and take effective legal action against them. The SSP has also held meetings with representatives of the Hindu and Muslim communities to ensure they help in maintaining peace and order across the district. He said that the police are also keeping an eye on social media platforms and will act strictly against those sharing misleading posts.
