Six hours after a 12-day-old baby was kidnapped from the premises of Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial (BJRM) hospital in North West Delhi, police rescued the infant and reunited him to his parents on Friday.
“We checked the previous records to see whether any such incident has taken place in the past or not. Teams conducted raids in all the surrounding areas and checkpoints were alerted. After sometime the woman was found and the baby rescued. We have arrested the kidnapper, who was known to the family in the past,” said Milind Mahadeo Dumbere, Deputy Commissioner of Police
(North West).
According to the DCP, the incident took place at 6 am on Friday when the infant’s mother, Soni Updhyay (23), had stepped out of her bed to use the washroom, leaving the infant alone. She told the cops that when she returned after a couple of minutes, her baby went missing, soon after which she raised an alarm and alerted the hospital staff.
Within a few minutes there was ruckus on the entire floor and a frantic search for the boy began, said sources, adding that other families on the floor too started panicking and made sure they did not leave their children alone.
“The hospital staff, at first, did not pay heed to my request when I cried for help, but when they sensed that the matter was serious, they all ran here and there looking for my son. I immediately called up my husband, soon after which he reached there,” the mother told police.
Police said the woman’s husband Sunil Pandey (27), reached the hospital and subsequently filed a complaint at Jahangirpuri police station.
