In a strange move, three police personnel who were sent to district police lines of South district for allowing the unauthorised serving of liquor for several hours beyond the permissible time limit have been reinstated in the same police station. “An internal department inquiry has been ordered and role of the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mehrauli Police Station Raman lamba is also being probed,” said a source.
The Delhi Police guidelines state that all places serving alcoholic beverages should down shutters by midnight. A senior police officer said that a few days back, higher authorities of South district came to know that there was dereliction of duty on the part of some policemen in the area and some bars were serving liquor beyond the stipulated deadline.
“Taking action against them, top brass of the districts first suspended a head constable and two constables, posted in Mehrauli Police Station of South Delhi, under whose jurisdiction is the bar and restaurant near Qutub Minar, Mehrauli. Police raided the bar and restaurant and detained some persons who were consuming alcohol. The owners of the joint also failed to display the licence when asked to do so,” the officer added.
last month, five policemen posted at South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj (North) Police Station, were suspended for failing to prevent sale of liquor to around 100 people, including minors, for several hours beyond the permissible time limit.
The owners of the joint who failed to display the licence when asked to do so have also been arrested in connection with the violation.
