Ram Singh, who committed suicide in his cell at Tihar Jail on Monday, was described as the ‘leader’ of the gang that had brutalised the 23-year-old paramedical student on December 16 last year. The police, in the charge sheet, have minutely elaborated the role of Ram Singh who not only raped the girl but also inserted an iron rod in her private parts and wrenched it several times. He was also involved in thrashing the victim’s friend and even attacked him with an iron rod before dumping the duo near Mahipalpur flyover.
Singh’s arrest was made after 20 hours of the incident when police found the white-coloured bus (Dl 1PC 0149) that was parked near the Gurudwara at Ravidas Camp. “Ram Singh who was sitting in the bus, tried to flee the spot. He was wearing T-shirt of green and black colour and police noticed that the collar of T-shirt was found torn. Some blood stains were also found on the T-shirt and his plastic slippers,” police said in their charge sheet.
During sustained interrogation, Ram Singh had admitted his involvement in the crime and told the police that due to heavy bleeding from the injuries of the victim, his clothes and the bus were stained with blood. He further disclosed that he was the one who insisted his aides to accompany him for making some quick bucks after consuming liquor on the fateful night. However, they also began looking for a sex worker to satiate their lust and it was then they planned to pick up a female passenger to have sex and make merry.
The charge sheet said it was Ram Singh, the bus driver, who began passing lewd comments on the couple prompting them to retaliate. The victim’s friend slapped him following which the other accused joined Ram Singh and they started beating him. But when the girl bit Ram Singh with her teeth, he started beating her and the juvenile accused jumped repeatedly on her abdomen causing grievous injury to her. Ram Singh even tried to destroy evidence by washing the bus with the help of his co-accused in Ravi Dass Camp area.
