A 31-year-old ground staff of Air India was arrested for allegedly stalking, assaulting, threatening and abusing a woman employee at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport on Wednesday, said police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, IGIA, Sanjay Bhatia confirmed the incident and said a case was registered against the accused Sanjay Manhji, a resident of South Delhi’s Mahipalpur.

Manjhi was stalking the woman, who is also a ground staff. Manjhi reportedly proposed her but she refused. “On Wednesday night Manjhi tried to molest her. When the woman screamed, he abused her and also threatened her of dire consequences,” said a police official.

Personnel of Central Industrial Security Force rushed to the rescue of the victim after hearing her screams, said police.

The woman then lodged a complaint to the security officials who then took her to the IGIA police station and on her statement an FIR under sections 354(assault or criminal force), 354D(Stalking), 506(punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509(Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of women) was registered against the accused.

A police team was immediately sent to the terminal and after a small search Manjhi was nabbed,” said the police official.
