Scuffle broke out between police officials and group of lawyers on a trivial issue in Outer Delhi’s Rohini Court on Wednesday. The lawyers’ body castigated the police officials for their high handed behaviour and demanded the suspension of area SHO and other police officials involved in maltreatment to Gaurav Suneja, a practicing lawyer at Rohini courts.
According to a senior police official, Gaurav Suneja, a practicing lawyer, was entering through gate number five of Rohini Court, which is for the entry of general public, in the morning wearing casuals when he was stopped and security check done on him.
“The gate for the entry of lawyers is from gate number four. A security personnel posted at the security check stopped. He was stopped from entering the court premises. When Suneja claimed himself to be a lawyer, security officials did not give into his claims and refused him entry,” said the police official.
This angered the lawyer, who called up many others lawyers. “Within a short span of time, a group of lawyers reached the spot and started abusing the security personnel. When the officials protested the lawyers attacked them creating chaos at the spot,” said the official.
Even security officials retaliated to the attack and both parties got involved in a fisticuff. More police officials, including the Prashant Vihar SHO and ACP, reached the spot to normalise the situation.
“The lawyers were unstoppable. The scuffle was finally stopped with the intervention of more police officials and Suneja was taken for verification where it was found out that he was a lawyer. Some people were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries,” said the official.
Meanwhile, Rajiv Tehlan, Honorary secretary of Rohini Court Bar Association, said they have called for a complete strike on Thursday against the brutal attack on the advocates by police officials at the court with the demand of immediate registration of FIR against erring police officials.
