On October 16, lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Mehboob Ali Kaiser was cheated of Rs 1,30,000 by a person impersonating a British Embassy employee, on the pretext of selling his car to the MP.
Kaiser is the chairman of Haj Committee of India and also a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personal and Public grievances as well as the Parliamentary law and Justice committee.
"This man told me that he is an employee in the British Embassy and his name is Philip Ford and his wife's name is Janet Ford. He used to call and pursue me quite often to convince me to buy his car. After I got convinced, I transferred Rs one lakh Thirty Thousand to his account and was supposed to send him Rs 70,000 more," said the police official quoting from the complaint of the MP.
Kaiser then consulted someone else regarding the matter and he started having doubts on the accused as he had stopped calling him.
" The victim then called the British Embassy on Sunday and asked for Philip but to his utter surprise, the Embassy officials told him that no one in that name was working over there.
The MP started panicking and immediately came to the police station to complain about the incident," said the police official.
Based on the complaint of the victim, an FIR was registered at the North Avenue Police station under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
"We have received the complaint of the MP. It is a matter of concern. A team has been formed to look into the matter and the culprit will be nabbed. Further investigations in the matter is on," said the police official.
