Police doubt robbery a motive in nurse murder

A day after a 55-year-old nurse’s body was found at her Government flat, investigators on Wednesday said robbery was not the motive behind the murder. They said they are scanning her call detail records (CDR) for the past three months and questioning the family and neighbours.

The post-mortem was conducted on Wednesday and the body was handed over to her family.Police said Varsha Verma lived with her husband and in-laws in Chandni Chowk and was the sister-incharge at Ahilyabai Nursing College. After visiting the crime spot, investigators added that it must have been some insider since entry was friendly.

“She was hit on the head twice with a blunt object. She was also gagged with a pair of socks," a police officer said. The incident came to light at around 6 pm on Tuesday when the victim's husband, Virender Verma, came home and found his wife lying on the floor. Every day, she came home for lunch. On the fateful day, Virender spoke to her last at around 12.30 pm when she was having lunch. However, when he called around 2.30 pm, there was no response.
