The city police claim to have busted a fake gun licence racket with the arrest of one accused. The police have recovered 5,000 rounds of ammunition, four pistols, three rifles from the house of the culprit.

The racket was unearthed a few days back when a complaint in this regard was made to the joint commissioner of police, who heads the licensing branch.

While one of the culprits was arrested earlier, police on Monday raided the house of Manish Bhardwaj in village Gurugram.

Earlier police had arrested Mohan lal, who is on remand and it was after sustained questioning that he revealed the modus operandi of the gang.

The duo used to charge 3 to 5 lakhs from the people wanting licenses. They used addresses of Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Nagaland to make the licenses which were re-registered in Gurugram.

The accused had managed to get 16 gun licenses registered using forged documents.

“We are looking into all the aspects of the case and more information will be revealed once the prime accused is arrested”, ACP Sadar, Anil Kumar said. Around 200 weapons and their licenses were checked while investigating the case,” he added.

Police are also investigating the role of police officials in the licensing branch as they could also be involved in this racket.
