Walking on the path of “One nation, One tax,” the Delhi BJP organised the GST-Delhi Sambodhan on the 116th birth anniversary of Shyama Prasad Mookerjee at the Talkatora Stadium this Thursday.
Speaking on this event Finance Minister (FM) Arun Jaitley said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India persuaded all the State Governments to give up 17 types of local taxes and 23 types of cess levied by them in their States and accept GST.
“It was under the dynamic leadership of the Prime Minister that the country first saw demonetisation being successfully implemented to weed out black money and now with the implementation of GST the country has now become one market with one tax which will benefit all sections of the society,” said Manoj Tiwari in his welcome address.
Shyam Jaju, national vice-president of BJP, said, “Jaitley has vocally raised the issues of the people for over four decades, he started his career as a student leader bringing change in student polity, during Emergency he fought for people’s fundamental rights and as a Minister he has worked to bring economic improvement to India.”
“‘One Rashtra One Vidhan’ was the vision behind GST formation. We did not force our decision on GST on any State including Jammu & Kashmir. Instead we showed them business and revenue loss the traders and the States will suffer by not implementing GST in comparison to the neighbouring State which will implement,” said Jaitely while commenting on the adoption of GST by J&K on Wednesday.
The GST was envisioned by a committee for tax reforms set up by Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2003.
It was the will of the Modi Government which promised to stand by to compensate States which may lose revenue which brought all States to accept GST.
Hundreds of Trader Bodies and RWA leaders joined the programme. With the implementation of GST the dream of economic integration of India has come through.
