PM must cancel talks with Pakistan: Rajnath

A beleaguered UPA Government came under fire on Sunday from BJP president Rajnath Singh, who demanded stern action against Pakistan and cancellation of the proposed meeting of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with his Pakistan counterpart.

In wake of fresh ceasefire violation by Pakistan at the line of Control (loC), Singh said the Prime Minister must scale down all diplomatic relations with the neighbouring country. “The Prime Minister must declare today cancellation of talks. As a mark of protest, the Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan should immediately be called back,” he added addressing a rally at Ramlila Maidan.

Singh slammed the Government for not handling the situation firmly and said Pakistan had crossed all limits. He also took a dig at Manmohan Singh for being silent on the issue and stated that this inaction had put at stake the reputation of the country in the international community. “One has lost all hopes from this Government. It is beyond understanding as to why the Government is desperate to continue negotiations with Pakistan. The time has come Pakistan be given a befitting reply but strangely the Prime Minister is still silent,” Singh said.

He added that there had been three ceasefire violations by the Pakistani army but the Government was yet to react. The BJP president said the Centre should tackle Pakistan with “effective steps by taking all political parties into confidence. If timely and effective steps were taken by India, Pakistan could not have dared to attack Indian posts,” the BJP leader said, questioning, “Till when will we continue to hold dialogue and talks with PakistanIJ”

Singh maintained that recalling the Indian High Commissioner was necessary and said a similar appeal was made by him after beheading of India soldiers a few months back, but in vain. Doubting the intentions of Pakistan, the BJP president said all efforts of India to improve relations with the neighbouring country has failed to deliver and hence no further talks should be held with Pakistan till it stops attacking the Indian soldiers and promoting terror activities from its soil.
