A large number of traders of PVC market at Tikri Kalan, led by Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh lovely and former PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan on Tuesday, staged a protest outside Raj Niwas against alleged harassment by municipal corporations and police.
“Thousands of traders and workers involved in dealing with plastic waste at Tikri Kalan’s PVC market have come here to inform lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung how they are being exploited and harassed by officials of the Delhi Police and the MCD in a bid to ruin their business,” Arvinder Singh said. Former PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, who was former president of the PVC market, said scrap collectors fight a daily battle for respectability and access.
“These traders only collect plastic waste to sell. The traders and workers, who do business at the lal Dora area of the village, should not be displaced as they await allotment of shops by DDA. But Delhi Police seems hell-bent on stymieing their trade,” Chauhan said.
The former Minister said they want Jung to direct officials of the Delhi Government and the Delhi Police not to “harass” them. “If the officials do not stop hounding them, Congress will go to any extent in its fight against harassment,” Chauhan added.
