In order to meet the increasing demand of water in Gurgaon, the District Administration had prepared a comprehensive plan to augment the water supply, which includes expansion of the water plant in village Chandu Budhera. The water plant will now have the capacity of storing 132 Million gallon water with six operational units.
According to senior officials, once all the six units are completed, the water storage capacity will be adequate enough to meet the requirement in Gurgaon. Officials said this would enable water supply for seven days to the city even if there is no water production as it happened three years back.
The construction of first unit of 22 MGD of Chandu Budhera water plant has been completed and now it has been put on trial run. The work is being done through Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), which has constructed raw-water pump house, water treatment plant, clear-water pump house, three storage tanks of 100 million gallon each and laid 6.5 kilometre-long water supply pipe line of 1,000 millimetre diameter from village Chandu to Basai water plants. The total cost of the first unit was Rs130 crore.
Huda Administrator Praveen Kumar said that the construction of second unit of 22 MGD of water plant is in progress which will cost about Rs38.40 crore and till now, about 40 per cent of construction has been completed. The second unit is expected to be completed by August. “As the demand of drinking water is on constant rise in the city, the construction of remaining units will be taken up in future in phased manner. The Government has already acquired 274 acres of land for the expansion of Chandu Budhera water plant and according to rough estimates, it will require an additional 140 acres of land to accommodate all the 6 units which will be acquired in due course of time” Kumar added.
We are inviting tenders for providing water to the new sectors from sector 58 to 115 in Gurgaon. These tenders have been sent for approval. The water pipe lines of 1,400 mm, 1,500 mm and 1,600 mm width will be laid along the Golf Course Extension road or Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), Dwarka Express-way or Northern Peripheral Road (NPR) and Central Peripheral Road (CPR), that is on road connecting village Kherki with Sohna Road.
However at present, Gurgaon is getting water supply from Basai Water plant which has three water treatment units, each of 20 MGD capacity and about 50 MGD water is supplied daily. Gurgaon is presently getting water through Gurgaon Water Supply Channel originates from village Kakroi in district Sonepat and culminates at village Basai in Gurgaon.
