L-G reviews MMI plans of DMRC

In a bid to provide safe and secure crossing and walking facility, the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning and Engineering) Centre (UTTIEC) has approved the Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) plans for all the Phase-III Metro Lines and Stations.

Under the MMI plan, all the stations will be upgraded with proper layout and facilities such as separate and aligned parking stands for e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws, better walking facility and other facility such as online cab booking kiosks, rented bicycles and e-bikes, connectivity to nearby bus-stands and Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) for better last mile connectivity.

The decision was taken on Monday, in a meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Anil Baijal to review the progress of implementation of Multi-Modal Integration plans of DMRC Metro Stations.

As per the officials, there are total 40 MMI plans proposed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for Phase III metro lines and stations. The main aim behind the project is provide a better walking facility for the pedestrians by clearing the traffic jams, congestions and improper parking chaos created by the e-rickshaws and Auto-rickshaw's around the metro station.

Delhi L-G Baijal last year asked the DMRC to come up with a solution to tackle the traffic jams, congestions and improper parking chaos created around the metro stations. Following which the agency come up with the MMI plan.  Delhi Metro has also invited tender for the MMI plan for Phase III. It has also issued tenders for various stretches and stations of Phase I and II corridors. Further, DMRC is expected to complete the execution of the project by next 6 months with priority to pedestrian facilities.

"DMRC submitted 40 revised drawings of MMI to UTTIPEC based on actual site conditions and updated traffic surveys for approval prior to going ahead with preparation of detailed drawing for execution," said an official.

As per the officials, L-G has also directed the Delhi Metro to focus more on pedestrian facilities to promote walkability and reduced dependency on Intermediate Para Transit (IPT) for last mile connectivity and asked to prepare detail plans of remaining Metro Stations and start execution in these 40 metro stations consultation with Traffic Police, Transport Department and PWD.

Further, the DMRC will provide connected pedestrian paths to assist commuters to seamlessly travel between various modes of transport, vehicles for last mile connectivity and effective engineering solutions to segregate pedestrian and vehicular zones.
