Plan afoot to divert traffic during summit

Commuters may face hardship in the first week of May, in Noida due to the proposed Asian Development Bank’s Summit that is scheduled to be held in Expo Mart in Greater Noida. Foreign delegates from 67 countries will be participating in the event which will also be attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

A major traffic diversion will be put in place in wake of the summit which includes the daily Noida volume and Express Highway. Traffic from Noida Sector 37 will also be diverted to NH 24 via Sector 62 and thus increasing the vehicular volume on the stretch. However, traffic in Delhi will remain unaffected as the delegates will be staying at Hilton Hotel in Mayur Vihar Extension from where they would reach Noida. Further, the PM will be using a chopper to reach the venue in Noida.

The officials have decided to restrict the movement of traffic on the Delhi-Noida Road from Noida Gate to Express Highway for the foreign delegates, who will come from Delhi. The general traffic will be allowed to move via Sector 62, Sector 37 and Dadri road. The authorities have also prepared a foolproof security plan for the summit. Around 4,000 delegates will attend the summit that will be held from May 2 to 5.

For smooth flow of traffic, the officials of Greater Noida Authority have ordered to construct two cuts at Yamuna Expressway. “We have directed the Jaypee Group to build cuts on both sides of the expressway so that the vehicles of delegates could easily enter the city and reach Jaypee Resort without much hassle. Some of the delegates will also be staying here. The traffic going towards Kasna via Pari Chowk will also be diverted to Surajpur Road. A round-about will be constructed on the Phi-III Road that will be used by the guests coming from New Delhi. Two cuts near Expo Part will also be closed to maintain smooth vehicular movement,” said Yogendra Yadav, OSD of Greater Noida Authority.

“We have planned to install traffic display boards on the entire route that will reflect all type of details regarding the venue. CCTV cameras and solar lights will also be installed on the stretch. Nearly 3,500 policemen will be deployed in and around the district and a control room would be setup in Greater Noida in this regard,” said Preetinder Singh, SSP of Gautambudh Nagar.
