For the women commuters travelling in and around Noida, the Gautam Budha Nagar administration has decided to launch ‘Pink Auto’ service’ by December this year.
Transport authority had approved NCR permits for 340 pink autos in June to ply in GB Nagar district. Registration will start next month with preference being given to women drivers. After Gurgaon and Ranchi, Noida will be the third city to start Pink Auto Service for women to provide them last-mile connectivity. These autos would be equipped with meters, GPS system and women helpline numbers.
Uttar Pradesh Transport Authority had taken this initiative keeping in mind the safety of women passengers in the district as cases of misbehaving, eve-teasing and loot are being regularly reported by auto commuters. Additional Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), official said the twin cities — Noida and Greater Noida — are occupied with intuitional hubs where women work day to night but they do not feel safe during travel.
The service would be started from 14 places that have been identified by ARTO, including Metro stations and other busy places in GB Nagar.
Official said these places are City Center Metro station, Sector-15 and Sector-16 Metro stations, Great India Place, Botanical Garden, Model Town intersection, Sector-37, Sector-125, Amity University, Sector-12/22/56 intersection, Sector-82, in Noida and Surajpur Chowk, Jagat farm, Pari Chowk (20), and Knowledge Park(30) in Greater Noida.
