The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force has busted a well-entrenched gang of fraudsters who were running an illegal international telephone exchange in Noida and were causing significant losses to the national exchequer. Police have seized a server that was illegally installed in Sector-63.
The gang used to provide cheap international call service to their consumers through the Internet. Police said the company has duped Rs50 crore since July this year. However, the company owner is at large.
Deputy Superintendent of police, Special Task Force (STF), RK Mishra told the Pionner, “The Telecom Enforcement and Regulation Monitoring Cell (TERM cell), New Delhi, had shared the information about a fake telephone exchange being operational in Sector-63, Noida . STF team along with telecom official raided there on Thursday and seized the illegal server that was connected with Indian Telecom Company.”
“It has been found that the server carried 8,20,000 international calls daily at 15 paisa/ second only that actually costs Rs20/ second,” he added.
STF official said, “The illegal network was being conducted by installing two servers — one in India and other in USA.
Noida’s server was connected by 32 PRI lines of Indian’s telecom authority. It was further connected with USA’s server through Voice over internet protocol. The company then provided service to Indian consumers by connecting them with mobile phones and fixed phones.”
“This illegal cellular operation was also a serious threat for national security,” official said.
“We have registered an FIR against Amit Kumar Jain, owner of Business Solution under section 379, 420 of Indian Penal code and Indian Telecom Act in Phase-III police station. A team has been formed to arrest him and other involved members,” said RK Mishra, DSP, STF Noida.
