Telephone service was badly hit in four hospitals in the city on Monday when MTNl cables of about 180 metres were stolen by some unidentified miscreants. These hospitals include GB Pant, lok Nayak, Maulana Azad Medical College and GB Pant Eye Centre. Also, the Internet connection was affected at GB Pant, due to which the patients had to suffer long delays in getting the medicines, as its information could not be recorded.

The patients waited for hours to get the medicines and could get them only around 4 pm when the Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital issued orders to the medicines section to distribute the medicines manually and manually maintain the record as well. While talking to The Pioneer, Dr SP Jayant, Medical Superintendent of GB Pant Hospital, said: “We have contacted the MTNl officials to reconstruct the entire wire line as soon as possible so that the hospital administration can connect outside.”

Medical Superintendent of lok Nayak Hospital, Dr Siddarth Ramji said: “We are facing problems to communicate with people outside the hospital for which doctors and administration is dependent on their mobile phones.” He added that patients did not have to suffer due to the disconnection in the telephone network.

The telephone cable lines are damaged from Ranjeet Singh Marg area, and 180 meters are stolen, said MTNl official. “We are repairing the entire telephone network again and our team is working on it,” said MTNl official, adding that it might take a day to complete the whole process.
