Petrol dealers up in arms against AAP Govt's move to hike VAT

The Delhi Petrol Dealers’ Association (DPDA) has come out strongly against any proposal to increase Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel and condemned the Delhi Government’s move in that direction.

“Delhi is geographically a small State. Worldwide economics of small States do not survive on high taxes. Economics of Delhi is different from States like Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, or for that matter, Bihar. Any increase in prices of petrol and diesel would fuel inflation invariably,” said the spokesperson of the association.

“Such a move would make petrol pumps of Delhi unviable and would also lead to huge revenue loss of VAT from petroleum products. This would also lead to layoffs of the staff at the petrol pumps inducing recession,” added the spokesperson.

DPDA added that the AAP Government had assured that VAT would remain lowest in the country and reiterated that any move to increase VAT would be contrary to its promises and would burden the common men of Delhi with high inflation.

“We would request the Delhi Government not to consider any move to increase VAT on petrol and diesel to save the trade of petrol pumps of Delhi and also to save the people from the ever increasing inflation,” said the spokesperson.
