On the second last day of Delhi campaigning, BJP’s chief ministerial nominee Kiran Bedi, who was known for her tough image as a police officer, was on Wednesday so “overwhelmed by the affection of people” that she almost broke into tears. Party president Amit Shah, who addressed four Jan Sabhas on Wednesday, continued his onslaught on Arivnd Kejriwal-led AAP. At the same time, noted comedian Raju Shrivastav entertained his audience with his witty one-liners on the AAP.
A former IPS officer, Bedi turned emotional while addressing a roadshow in Krishna Nagar constituency from where she is contesting the February 7 Assembly polls. Overwhelmed with the affection of people who had got tea flasks for her at the roadshow, she said, while simultaneously wiping her tears, that she will return the people’s love by serving them. “I have no words for the kind of love I am getting. I will return the love to them. I will try my best to remain capable of getting their love. We will serve them with honesty,” Bedi said.
Earlier, she also attacked Arvind Kejriwal for daring the Government to arrest him over allegations of receiving dubious funding, saying he “is doing this to remain in news”. “Kejriwal is one such person who wants to be in news at any cost. I know him from long before and negativity also suits him much. How will he stay in news otherwise,” she questioned.
Keeping his speech almost the same like his previous ones, party president Amit Shah, lashed out at AAP and said, “They are the ones who say something and do something else. It is only the BJP, which keeps its promises under the leadership of Narendra Modi.” He also took a jibe on their funding and repeated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement — “Kaali raat mein kale dhan ke karnaame”.
Speaking on inflation and corruption, he compared inflation index and prices of petrol and diesel between Modi’s eight months of governance and UPA’s 10 years at the Centre. “From 6.7 per cent to 7 per cent during Congress’ rule, the BJP in just eight months has brought down inflation to 0-1 per cent. Petrol prices have decreased 11 times in the past few months reducing monthly expenses per household by at least Rs1,500,” he said during his rally in Jangpura.
