Hundreds of people from different backward communities, under the leadership of veteran Dalit leader and four-time MLA Jai Kishan on Wednesday resolved that they will sit on a hunger strike if Congress president Rahul Gandhi resigned from the party post.

At a meeting of the office bearers of the social organizations of Dalits, Jai Kishan discussed the prevailing political situation in the country and expressed their full confidence in the leadership of the party supremo. Jai Kishan is also a member of the committee set up by party’s state unit head Sheila Dikshit to look into various factors which led to the Congress debacle in the Lok Sabha elections in the national capital.

Jai Kishan alleged that the BJP had won the elections by misusing the government machinery. He said that the Congress which had fought for the Independence of the country, its role can never ever be ruled out in taking the nation forward.

He alleged that no BJP leader had ever played any role in the Independence of the country. “Only Congress leaders had fought for our Independence.” He said that the BJJP wanted to muzzle the voice of the opposition parties and Gandhi should not fall prey to their communal and petty political gimmicks.

He said, “Congress general secretary Prinyanka Gandhi Vadra and party chief Rahul Gandhi had played a critical role during the Lok Sabha campaigning. And if Mr Gandhi does not budge to take back his resignation offer, we will sit in a hunger strike outside his residence.”
