People have started applying for licensed firearms in Haryana, a reaction that does not bode well for the State which witnessed victimisation of non-Jat communities during Jat quota stir.
Struggling to come to terms with the vandalism and rampant loot across the State, those affected told The Pioneer that they can no more rely on the police and even the Army for their safety in Jat dominated areas.
Working in Multi National Company (MNC) in Naya Haryana, industrial area of Rohtak, Jatin said that during the time of agitation his
relatives in Sampla village called several times to the Police and Army but none of the security forces came to their rescue.
“Violence had taken different shape. The agitators damaged the properties of non-Jats and were standing outside our houses with truncheons, and when my relatives called the police for help what response they got: “Aap apni help khud kijiye, hum nahin aa sakte ( we cannot come to help you),” he said.
“We have applied for the licensed firearm. We cannot depend entirely on forces for our safety in such situations,” he added.
Describing the series of violent incidents during Jat stir in industrial area of Rohtak, Vineet Jain, who comes to the district for his Charted Accountant (CA) coaching classes, said that the operations of forces were reserved up to roads, “forces did not come to the interior areas of the district and curfew was not commanded for the mob but for general public,” said Jain.
“I stay near city to pursue my coaching but my elders are advising me to keep a firearm with me for self defense,” he said further.
On the contrary, Jat communities assured that Jats are not targeting non-Jats, “Whatever happened was a political conspiracy to tarnish the image of Jats in the city, said Jaiprakash Rathi.
“No media organisation is reporting that Jat helped truck drivers during agitation... NH-10 was choked completely and roadside dahabas were closed, the Jat community served food and other items to people who were stuck.
Whosoever is living in Haryana is equal, and we are trying to make conditions normal here.”
