A pregnant woman, 30, gave birth to a baby girl in a patrolling vehicle near Central Delhi’s Shanti Van on Friday. The two policemen, who were in the vicinity, were approached by the husband and informed the PCR personnel that his wife was in labour. They intended to take her to Kasturba Gandhi Hospital after she complained of labour pain while working at Shanti Van. But before they could reach the hospital, Rekha gave birth to a baby girl at Shanti Van red light itself. The mobile police vehicle staff got the mother and newborn admitted to the hospital where both are doing fine, police said.

According to constable Sunil, who is posted with the PCR, he along with another constable, Deepak, was going towards Yamuna Pushta around 3 pm.  “A man came to us and informed that his wife is in agony near Shanti Van red light. With the help of two female labourers, we took the woman in the vehicle. We proceeded towards Kasturba Gandhi Hospital but before we could reach she delivered the baby within a few minutes,” Sunil told The Pioneer. The woman, identified as Rekha, works as a labourer at Shanti Van. A senior police officer said that both the policemen will be rewarded for their yeoman service.
