The BSP supremo queered the political pitch by holding a workers rally in the Capital even as Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi joined Congress ranks with two sitting Delhi MlAs — Ram Singh Netaji and Asif Mohammad Khan, former councillors VK Monga, Indu Mishra, Tilak Raj Agarwal and Vineeta Choudhury on Friday.
Netaji and Khan have won elections on BSP and RJD tickets respectively. With elections in the Capital imminent, political activities have reached fever pitch as leaders curry favour with their vote base. On Friday, the Delhi BJP released a report countering the claims made by Delhi Congress in its Report Card II. The report was released by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President JP Agrawal recently. It highlighted several developmental projects and schemes launched during the last 15 years of Congress rule in Delhi.
While Congress is banking on all-round development of the city in the forthcoming polls scheduled in November, BJP, BSP and the Aam Aadmi Party have jumped into the fray relying heavily on inflation and corruption. The BJP claims that Delhi Government has been misguiding the people of Delhi since the beginning and has converted it into an unaffordable, unsafe, unplanned and polluted city.
However, Delhi CM Dikshit is confident that the people of the city understand and acknowledge the developmental work and schemes undertaken by the Congress Government. Elated with MlAs and councillors of Opposition parties joining party ranks, Dikshit on Friday said this would only reinforce the party.
The BJP has already said that the party would draw up a list of probables for the 70 Assembly seats by September 15 and forward it to the Central leadership for its assent. On Friday, BSP chief Mayawati said her party would announce a list of candidates in the next 10-12 days. A poll survey conducted by an electronic media on Aam Aadmi Party chewing up votes of Congress, BJP and BSP, looks like the poll arena will be a pitched battle.
