The Delhi Government has ordered an enquiry into the automated multilevel parking incident, asking the director of the civic body to submit its report within 15 days.
The parking lot which collapsed was inaugurated by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) in November last year.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the Delhi Government will not tolerate wastage of taxpayers’ money and negligence in public safety. “The Government has taken cognizance of this matter and ordered the director of local bodies to investigate the matter through the ‘Public Works Department’ of the Delhi Government.
“The director has to submit a report within 15 days to recognise the lapses in parking construction so that appropriate action can be issued. The MCD collected huge money from the nearby shopkeepers in the name of parking conversion charges. Traders’ shops were sealed and a parking space was constructed. But within a year, the parking space was engulfed in corruption by the BJP-ruled MCD and had started to collapse. Due to which many cars have been damaged,” he said.
Sisodia said that the BJP ruled MCD in Delhi always weeps for lack of money, but even when they have the money, they indulge in corruption and are dishonest with public money. “The multi-level parking of Green Park has fallen prey to the BJP-ruled MCD’s corruption.
This parking lot was inaugurated by the BJP leaders with great enthusiasm in November last year but within a year it broke down. Electric floor plates have started to fall apart inside the parking lot, which has damaged many cars and many people have suffered heavy losses. It is obvious that it is the result of BJP’s rigging and corruption that the parking could not last even for a year,” he said.
Sisodia alleged that huge money was collected from the nearby shopkeepers in the name of parking conversion charge by the BJP ruled MCD. “Shops of traders were sealed and the parking space was constructed.
This parking lot has started falling apart due to corruption and scam. The BJP-ruled MCD has not only been dishonest with the public and wasted their tax money, but have also caused immense damage to their vehicles in this parking lot and even before operationalizing this parking space, its safety audit was not even conducted,” he added.
The automated stack parking facility was inaugurated in November last year by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and Union minister RK Singh along with senior SDMC officials.
The 17-floor multilevel automatic parking near Green Park Metro station, built at a cost of Rs 18 crore, was inaugurated in November last year. A total of 136 cars, including 32 SUVs, can be parked.
