PARI, rape victims’ family members seek speedy justice

Published on:

Demanding speedy justice for rape victims, several members associated with People Against Rapes in India (PARI) along with family members of rape victims have demanded “speedy investigation and fast trials not exceeding six months of rape cases and rapists should be hanged within a year”.

A protest march also took place from the press club of India to Vijay Chowk and the members also wrote a letter to the Prime Minister seeking a one to one discussion for their concerns. The founder of PARI, social activist Yogita Bhayana said, “PARI is not an organisation, it’s a campaign by the people who are against the brutal act of rape. Every day 93 girls are raped and minimum 2 are killed after their rapes. In January 2019 many cases were reported in national Capital Delhi itself, where in girls were raped and murdered. This is the sad reality of our country and it is a high time we must acknowledge it. The issue of sexual violence should be the topmost priority of Government of India.”

The relative of a victim said that she was raped when she had returned home from school and had gone out to play in her apartment complex. “When home campus itself is not safe for the children where else can safety be expected?” he said.

Around 100 members, including a rape victim, Vikram Singh, former Director General of Police Uttar Pradesh and advocate Sunil Kumar Singh took part.
