Concerned over the safety and security of their wards, parents associations held protests outside Ryan International Schools in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj and Rohini and in Noida and Greater Noida as well.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, south district, Chinmoy Biswal said the parents of Ryan International School in Vasant Kunj have given a complaint to Delhi Police regarding non verification of staff, staff not wearing uniform, unrestricted entry to the schools, security lapses, non-functional CCTVs and water storage tanks being open among others.
Many of the protesting parents alleged the management of Ryan International School Vasant Kunj has not learnt any lessons from the tragic death of 6-year-old Devyansh Kakrora, a student who drowned in the school’s water tank last year. The complaint by the parents comes against the backdrop of increased concerns about students’ safety in schools following the killing of a seven-year-old student in Ryan International’s Gurugram branch.
“We have received the complaint. We are looking into the matter. No FIR has been registered yet,” said Biswal.
Police personnel were posted outside two Ryan International schools on Monday after a group of parents whose children go to the Noida Sector-39 branch staged a protest when they were not allowed to meet the principal.
The parents wanted the management to step up security of the schools.
The murder left parents shaken and exposed the lax security arrangements at the Gurugram branch, with the victim’s father demanding a CBI probe into the murder.
The parents began assembling at the gate of Ryan International in Sector-39, Noida at around 8 am and wanted an assurance that their children were safe, sources said.
As the group began to swell, the school called police. The parents were told that the principal would meet them after school hours.
“She (the principal) has assured of meeting after 2 pm as our entry into the school could have disturbed the school children,” a parent said.
Police were also guarding the Ryan International at Kasna in nearby Greater Noida. “A group of parents had gathered to carry out a candle march so we deployed personnel there,” Kasna station house officer Jitendera Singh said.
The management is under immense pressure as a panel report has pointed to several security lapses at the Gurugram school, including children sharing toilets with adult staff.
The Gurugram Police has arrested a bus conductor for the murder of the seven-year-old after he confessed to slitting the throat of the chid after allegedly trying to abuse him sexually. But the parents say, the school was hiding something and the probe should be handed over to the CBI.
