Parallel road along Noida e-way expected to even out traffic

To ease the ever-increasing vehicular volume on Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, the Noida Authority is planning to construct a parallel road to share traffic on expressway. The new road will be an extension of link Road between Sector 44 and Sector 82 that will connect Pari Chowk in Greater Noida. Residents of over two dozen sectors and office goers will largely benefit since roads leading to these sectors will be connected by the proposed carriageway. Approximately four lakh commuters use the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway everyday.

The authority has planned to convert the four-lane road to six lanes and extend it to Greater Noida. A lumpsum amount of Rs400 crore is expected to be spent on the entire project which will be borne by Noida Authority alone. The total length of the carriageway will be 24.53 kilometre. A big chunk of expressway users use the Mahamaya flyover as intersection which creates traffic snarls during peak hours. Once the road is operational, commuters will reach their desired destination without using the flyover. Apart from the main city area, commuters of Sector 44, 45, 46, 47, 99, 80, 97, 104, 107, 110, 82, 93, 93 (A, B & C), 84, 84, 86, 139, 90, 137, 140, 141, 143, 143B, 144, 145, 146 and several parts of Greater Noida will benefit from the proposed move.

According to authority officials, they have conducted a physical survey of the area. The detailed project report will be prepared after announcing the project in the next board meeting scheduled on February 12. If all goes well, construction will begin before June.

“As the traffic load is increasing and is likely to be doubled in the next five years, we have been planning to divide the load by constructing another road. We have started the process of land acquisition in this regard,” said a senior official.
