The monsoon is here and the pleasant winds whet the appetite. Popular hangouts surrounding Delhi University are abuzz with thousands of students. The area has several famous shopping destinations, along with finger-licking food to suit all pockets.
Kamla Nagar Market, a 10-minute journey from the university, houses an array of food outlets that are favourites of students while they browse through both high end brands and street wear. For, instance, Narayani, a third year Computer Science student from Indraprastha College for Women, said Knag is a spot to die for. “We come any day and spend hours with friends. I have many friends from St Stephen’s hostel and it is a breather for them from daily routine. We just end up window shopping sometimes. We eat, shop and have fun. This gives us space for good stuff according to our budgets,” she added.
And then there is the Momo Point, Chuski Wala, Chacha di Hatti — a 25-year-old chole bhature shop — Café Helan that serves hot shawarma, pani puri stalls, For Your Information (FYI) Maggi Shop and numerous others.
They’re not the just popular with the ‘crowd’ but also an unbreakable bond for many. Ashok Kumar, a passout from Hindu College, has been relishing the chole from day I of college. Now married and a father, Kumar said it's a must for him at least twice a month.
“I came from Himachal Pradesh and grabbed a seat at Hindu College. I lived with my elder brother and this used to be our kitchen. We came once for either lunch or dinner. The chole bhature have only got better with every year and they introduced more strong tastes in their kulchas and alu bhatura,” he marvelled.
There are those also who crave new things and for them, a must visit spot is the Hudson lane, 20 minutes from Knags. The newly-opened lane is less crowded and attracts youngsters to one of the most famous Chinese food outlets, QDs, which was earlier at Knags itself. It also has a north Indian restaurant serving thalis, Pizza Hut, Subway, Big Yellow Door restaurant and Singh Chingh Chowmein.
