'Pakistani' makes ransom calls to parents of Noida youth kidnapped in Malaysia

Even after 24 hours of his kidnapping, the Ministry of External Affairs and Malaysian Embassy in New Delhi have failed to provide any clue about the well being of kidnapped MBA student, lalit Adhana, in Malaysia, where he had gone to receive his MBA marksheet on June 30. The kidnappers, posing to be from Pakistan, have demanded Rs10 lakh ransom to free lalit. 

The family members of the victim are struggling from Noida to Delhi for the last two days to get their son back. They claimed on Wednesday that they are still receiving ransom calls from different mobile numbers after every 10 minutes. The kidnappers are forcing them to deposit cash in lalit’s account. The first call from the “kidnappers” was received by the victim’s family on Monday afternoon. 

lalit’s uncle Anil Kumar said they had approached the External Affairs Ministry on Tuesday where the official had called the Malaysian Embassy in India and provided the details of missing lalit. But they have not given any clue of lalit even after 24 hours. “Over 100 calls have been made by the kidnappers to us. We have been told to deposit cash in the account to free him, but who will assure us that he would be fine,” he asked

Superintendent of Police, Noida, Dinesh Yadav said, “As the crime has been committed in Malaysia, we cannot lodge an FIR in Noida. We are in touch with the official of the Ministry of External Affairs and Malaysian embassy in Delhi. All possible help will be given to the victim family.” He added that Noida Police on Tuesday evening had received a complaint from lalit Adhana’s family after which Malaysian Embassy in Delhi was approached.  

lalit’s uncle Anil Kumar told police that the family had received a call around 1.30 pm on Monday claiming that lalit had met with an accident. After an hour, a caller asked them to deposit Rs5 lakh in lalit’s bank account. But the caller didn’t tell them where the accident took place. lalit’s father Ajab Singh, however, had deposited Rs1.5 lakh in his son’s bank account within a couple of hours. But the family alleged they kept receiving calls asking them to deposit another Rs3.5 lakh. When the victim family wished to communicate with lalit, their demand was turned down.

On Tuesday, the caller again called the victim’s home posing as a Pakistani. They had demanded Rs10 lakh to free him and threatened them to kill him if more cash was not deposited in another account.However, the family had tried to deposit Rs3 lakh in that account but the transfer could not be possible due to technical problem. lalit lives with his family in Morana village in Sector 35. He was pursuing three-year MBA programme from Malaysia and had come to Noida for vacation, police sources said.
